Adam Clarke joined the Royal Navy in 1998 and in his early career served in 800 Naval Air Squadron, the UK Maritime Component Command in Bahrain, HMS EDINBURGH and at Centurion Building.
Joining the Weapon Engineer (Information Systems) specialisation in 2006, his career since has centred on C5ISR and Digital capabilities. As a Lieutenant Commander, roles included the implementation of Defence’s HR system, the delivery of IT systems to HM Ships and supporting operations (both in PJHQ’s overseas teams and in the Maritime C5ISR Support Unit) ad capability development in Navy Command HQ.
Promoted to Commander in 2016, he was appointed to Joint Force Command’s Capability Branch, to develop Defence’s Enterprise IT services and subsequently served as the Deputy Programme Manager in a complex cross-government cyber programme. Returning to Navy Command in 2020, he commanded the Maritime C5ISR Support Unit (MCSU), providing operational C5ISR and digital support to maritime operations and conducting defensive cyber operations.
As a Captain he worked in Defence Intelligence providing MOD’s support to the National Cyber Force and leading the training and development of the cyber domain workforce. He joined the Cyber & Specialist Operations Command (CSOC) in 2025 and now leads SATCOM and Position Navigation and Timing capability development.
He was appointed MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2019 and is a graduate of Advanced Command and Staff Course, with an MA in Defence Studies. Nobby is married to Alexandra, a teacher, and they live in Petersfield with their daughter, Beatrice. In his spare time he enjoys taking Beatrice to sports, doing DIY and pottering around Portsmouth harbour in their boat.
