Ammar Ali

Director – Space, Defence & Intelligence

Ammar Ali is a Director within CGI’s Space, Defence & Intelligence business where he leads the delivery and growth of major space programmes focused on mission-critical ground segment solutions for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) mega-constellations. His work supports the development of resilient, scalable communications systems and provides insight into emerging capabilities such as Direct-to-Device and next-generation non-terrestrial networks.

Prior to joining CGI, Ammar spent five years at Viasat, most recently as Programme Director for Strategic Programmes within the International Government business. He led delivery across a portfolio of high-value defence programmes, including key contributions to the UK MOD’s SKYNET programme, developing extensive expertise in military satellite communications and sovereign capability.

Earlier in his career, Ammar spent eight years at Northrop Grumman UK delivering complex, integrated systems for the UK MOD and international customers. He led mission-critical programmes supporting major defence platforms, including the Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers, Type 45 Destroyers and Astute nuclear-powered submarines, spanning both surface and sub-surface defence environments.

Ammar brings multi-orbit SATCOM experience across both LEO and GEO systems, spanning commercial and military domains, with a focus on bridging commercial innovation into defence applications.

Ammar is a Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, a Project Management Professional and holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
