Gareth ‘Gaz’ Littlechild

A retired senior military leader, Gaz served in the Royal Air Force for over thirty years after completing his A-Levels in 1992. A fast-jet Weapons Systems Operator (Navigator) and advanced tactics instructor, Gaz’s specialisations included electronic warfare, operational planning & execution and flight instruction. He also served in several Air & Space capability acquisition roles, primarily in emerging and developing technology areas for the ‘future fight’.

Awarded the OBE in 2016 for his leadership during the Syria campaign, Gaz also commanded on multiple global operations including Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria.

Gaz’s penultimate role in the UK military (2018-2022) was as a UK Exchange Officer to the US Department of Defense in the Pentagon, Washington DC. As the RAF’s senior officer in the Pentagon, he initially worked within the US Air Force Headquarters on innovation strategy and emerging tech-related start-up projects. In 2021, Gaz moved to the newly formed US Space Force Headquarters to become the Deputy Division Head for Global Partnership Plans & Policy.

On his return to the UK in spring 2022, Gaz became the Programme Director for the UK Government’s space-based intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) projects at UK Space Command.

Gaz retired from military service in Oct 2023, beginning with MDA Space UK at their Harwell HQ location in September 2023, as the Director for new UK Government Business, Defence & National Security. He remains a Reserve Officer for the RAF and UK Space Command on a part time basis.
