An aerospace engineer from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) with a Master’s degree in space technologies, Rafel completed an MBA and worked for disruptive start-ups in the field of space technologies and launchers.
Since founding Open Cosmos in 2015 , he has led the company through periods of significant growth and global expansion. Today, the company operates as a pan-European entity with a workforce approaching 300 employees across major facilities in the UK, Spain, Portugal, and Greece. Under his leadership, Open Cosmos maintains a 100% success rate in orbit.
A key pillar of Rafel’s vision is the OpenConstellation, a mutualised satellite infrastructure that enables countries and organisations to pool resources for global sensing and connectivity. Greece is a pivotal partner in this initiative, with Open Cosmos establishing a dedicated local presence to support the country’s national space ambitions. This strategic collaboration ensures that sovereign data and real-time insights are accessible to address critical regional challenges such as environmental monitoring and maritime security.
